A common species.

Often found in gardens and fields.

Good fortune is attributed to this species in some areas.

Trivia

Size ranges about 5mm to 8mm.

Diet appears to be omnivorous. Pests to crops are reduced by this species.

Toxins are generated by this species which deter predators.

An innate store of related chemicals however may exist.

Playing dead is occasional by this species when disturbed.

Protecting itself by running or flying may also occur if disturbed.

Younger specimens lack armour, but appear similar to adults.

Hibernates during low temperatures evidently.

Small spaces are sought out to hide in when hibernation occurs.

Lifespan is uncertain, but assumed to be several months.

The distribution of patterns on the shell may slightly differ between individuals.

Flowers and flowering plants appear to be preferred for the pollen and nectar that those habitats provide.
