'Lacy' Mahieu

Farmer | Traveller | Musician | Nixie

Retains a flexible stance toward most situations. Attempts to avoid difficulty has become a general demeanour. Tends to put others ahead, but within range of reason. Usually she is not adverse to speaking her mind or putting thoughts and opinions forward. If off-put by something despite efforts, there can be hesitation or withdrawal from a conversation. Overall, despite this, there is often attempted positivity, if not forcing herself on a spur to move past complications or tension that might otherwise cause reticence.

History

After something happened with another family member and not wanting to be alone or without support in case something happened to her as well, Lacy went off from the secludes of where she lived with a parent. Unable to do much after that incident drove her off: the farm ruined with the owner gone and gone ‘mad’, she disappeared for a while, needing to hide from anyone looking for her who may have been suspecting her to that same degree.

This meant wandering for a while, yet by that same extent eventually giving into the fact that she could not avoid people forever. A considerable distance and a few years time away from her start, having realised more since then, effort was made to pass herself off as an orphan and similarly beg to be given work.

A runaway is more desperate and would be viewed as exploitable, which was a relevant fact, partly.

She worked for food and few coins, needing to blend in more to keep surviving: eventually years passed, this to the extent that, over time, she was gradually able to support herself without relying on minimal pay. Through the skills she already had, and had kept up with over time: eventually managed to secure an occupation at a tavern as a local and sometimes travelling musician: and from there built on her social capability, yet not forgetting risk.

Travel, and caution, is still ongoing.

Trivia

Stands around 163 cm.

Tends to wear ballet slippers when going out to water. Shoes and stockings are used for other settings.

Paranoid of using song, along with being around water sources at the same time as others. Fear cancels any hypnotic effect that can be generated by music through opposing intent. Being asked about certain topics would result in a shudder and no further response.

Features capability to influence surroundings with her voice, which can be seen as subjectively eerie with the fact trees are not supposed to ‘dance’.

For animals, humans included, this could be to the death. If individuals are fortunate: passing out from the results of moving so long may occur instead, depending on the song length.

In folklore canon: that creature group had the general capability to affect surroundings and any being in those surroundings.

In folklore, if teaching people music through a grudge or general malignancy, this can mean death or at least harm for others who are listening later. Songs passed along can cause the same compulsion as direct influence: the player is unable to stop until also collapsing. In that case too, not accepting what is offered or presented is best.

Due to attempts at avoiding risk, this would not be relevant to her character.

She cut her hair but did not kill her voice, needing it to survive. Remains too afraid to sing most likely, even if not in anyone's company.

Horse eyes include a flat line in the center, which is a sign of inherencies. This is only a present element if she is underwater and darkness has relevance. As this can be off-putting; in the unlikely chance that becomes relevant: a more subdued tone would be taken up in an attempt to avoid attention.

Similarly, her teeth are 'human', which reflects on her basis. In regard to structure, horse teeth are very similar to that of human varieties, the length of the jaw however causing difference.

When underwater, ocular features typically consist of transparent pupils surrounded by darker irises. Human eyes are more adept at seeing dim contrasts within a light background, which does not suit murky waters. Light is drawn into the translucent pupil, the darker iris restricting the amount of light that passes through the other parts of the eye and allowing for better vision.

Her genuine name is -------. Situationally, 'Lacy', ‘Clover’ and 'Gratiola' were derived from that term.

Does not know how to cook extensively, this through an overall plant-oriented diet, but enough is understood to support herself.

Knows how to play a few instruments, while the most adept at the viola and mandolin. By those aware of related effects, can be seen as potentially threatening if holding one: despite that dull panic also cancels out any effect when playing.

Due to her background, could be considered agile and limber, both on water and on land: this however depending on appearance.

Somewhat colorblind, unable to see red: perhaps to the benefit of her self-security, despite related potential irony.

Even without that, the smell of blood is often evident.

At times may get crushes on people, yet fear blocks out most thought to say anything.

Straightforward if flirted with: generally moving past fear either to excuse herself or try to move the conversation elsewhere.

Tends to force herself to be more social than she is at her baseline, even if sometimes this causes her to trip up socially: knowing mistakes happen.

Not innocent; cannot be called considerate unwaveringly. Relatively self-interested and guarded, but does what is possible outwardly to not slip into negative mentalities or instigate conflict.

Lacy is a male and female name. Eggs are difficult to assign sex to. Had a mother and father once, while the former left a long time ago; Nix likely able to travel between waters and rarely staying together outside of relevancies.

An otherworldly strength present within given lore may apply to females equally, which can be potentially threatening through related capability and decisions.

Other than in swimming long distances, pushing the self is not something that generally occurs, partly adding to her overall subdued and withdrawn air.

Alike to how Nix are described in folklore, the hem of her dress or skirt is often damp, regardless of setting. This potentially bolsters the time away from water sources, but not extensively.

Occasionally may 'speak' or 'respond to' birds using a pattern of sounds that somehow translate into understood patterns. This is typically normal conversation, by the limit that the species' can carry. Loons are the most frequently 'spoken' to, being primarily water-based species; which can make it seem as though she herself is a 'common' or other loon through resulting drawn-out call.

When around ponds and lakes for longer durations, may dub multiple loons by various names, although these are not responded to typically. This is more of a self-related reminder than anything, in being able to only minutely tell difference between individuals. Due to these birds' territorial behavior, such individuals may indirectly signal warning when someone else nears.

To other persons, a similar factor may be present, although unlikely to be attempted, or unlikely to be overheard. In outer perspective, 'song' would be close to 'English' or another prominent language, but not the same. Base vowels and consonants are put together, but in a manner not that perceivable.

Carrying a tune requires understanding on both sides.

Knowledge is necessary to create equivalents for translation. Even if she wanted to say something, it could fail if not understood by herself in context. Limits are still present with unknown or un-recalled meanings. Not everyone has an idea of what they can say or want to; and her limit is generally to 'English' phrasing.

Occasionally may fall silent mid-sentence, realising she cannot continue: either not knowing how to say a word, not knowing its meaning, or doing that for another reason.

Often tries to not make others angry or upset, although she is not typically offset if that happens; moving on from fact instead, unless that proves too difficult. Would not try to project complication towards others, instead herself; going about normally and eventually moving on in perspective.

Called ‘Clover’ from collecting clover for tea, wreaths, and decor, and to pass time.

Tended for clovers, mallow, kudzu, by preference, habitat, and quantity respectively.

May start pulling kudzu up; not immediately, but hurry to do that when having a basket; if seeing any around.

Likely attempted that frequently earlier on, to keep it from spreading and utilise it while still new. The plant is a vine that generally needs to be uprooted to prevent it from spreading, but that is entirely edible and can be used widely in cooking.

Concentrations tend to accrue depending on resources and environment. Subjective toxicity is possible if certain elements are introduced. This can depend on the quality of water or whether individuals take in certain toxins.

Nix and Nixie are horse-like merfolk. As Kelpie have ‘adhesive’ skin sometimes: pollutants could leak through the skin and coat the outer layer. The ‘muck’ is part of ones that have spent long spans in contaminated terrains, within molecular structure. Concentrated substances can literally be beneath skin, caused by drawing toxins in from people coming too close.

This is technically blood albumin glue, with moderate traces of other compounds, including calcium hydroxide.

Calcium hydroxide (traditionally called slaked lime) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2. It is a colorless crystal or white powder and is obtained when calcium oxide (called lime or quicklime) is mixed, or slaked with water.

Skin may be alabaster until mixed with the dried blood powder and water: then featuring a red substance that is very adhesive.

"Blood on one's hands", for some individuals, would be an accurate yet ironic idiom in connection to this trait.

Holding hands might not be ideal in that regard, depending on the situation. Letting go would be impossible. As that neurologically is an act of affection, physiology may correlate depending on the individual.

Kelpie and other brook horse species are pure white or grey as horses, which fit the context: grey equating to bacterial or fungal cells attacking the damp glue.

The glue is shed by notion; if not eventually; the species being shapeshifters.

Can breathe underwater regardless of appearance. This can be seen as surreal; essentially walking along the bottom of a lake as a 'human'.

Folk tales are twisted, horror-toned, and sometimes graphic. The Nix species (in folklore canon) are depicted as (at times) obsessive and invariably soulless, besides bound to water or risking death being away from sources.

This can be seen as analogous to how humans have artificially gained odd characteristics over many generations. Yet, it is pollution and meat that causes negative effects mentally and physically. A fear of the self may characterise individuals unaffected by relevancies.

If a Nix is lonely; pulling people in as water can do, harmfully, this however out of a sense of emptiness or sense of absence than due to chance; chances are a person is either going to end up as undead company — or be killed. Despite not stopping people from ‘leaving’, that it is eventually decided on leads the cycle further.

For some reason, corpses are not disturbed and instead left to decay: this is not good either on a few levels.

Once dead and silent, there is not anything else within reasoning that can be taken from someone. If considerably zealous, an individual may ‘trap’ multiple people below; leaving meaning death. Nothing and no one is enough, as eternity is worse than death or oblivion.

Salt water and fresh is the same to individuals potentially. As they can become 'sunken treasure', this to lure prey, it does not seem that they are affected by lack of oxygen. Water is literally a placebo soul for them, which may be why they need to be around it once a day at the least, or become weaker.

When viable, she occasionally sleeps in a tub when staying at a town, spending the night in that manner with the door locked. When this is not viable during a town stay, she visits plunge pools and cold baths available to the public.

Stealing names means some death of self. This may be why individuals expire if it is used in their presence. In this case, as of others: it is a kept secret.

Nix are attractive superficially, but beneath the skin can be 'rot'. May eventually slowly start 'rotting', avoiding 'death' forever impossible. Addiction slowly kills the self, in many cases, regardless of the cause.

Strangers are indivisible. Once someone becomes one, it is much easier to let them go; or when this stands as true within more morbid terms: to discard them.

Guards herself from resulting in this manner, yet irony exists: it is the self that is being guarded, not just the surroundings, despite that settings hold importance and exist as an influence.
