'Xylo'

Scientist | Writer | Heracles Beetle | Fae

A plain-spoken individual, who yet considers his words to some extent before they exist. He can be described as indirect, though risk-taking and inventive in his decisions. Effort is often put into considering the different frameworks of a situation, although he might not always have a sense of what is best. He tries for idealism regardless, accounting precautions frequently for that purpose.

History

His earlier years focused on study and building character. In the surroundings that comprised his awareness, as everchanging as they were, he did not know more than what he learned through literary basis, regarding the larger world outside the populace he was familiar with. That terrain remained familiar until moving out to a wider expanse. This separation was perhaps necessary in a few regards, a notion realised with the repetition of certain complications. Regardless, he remained to that decision in effort to not be limited. Communication and other necessary social groundworks were not too much of a dividing element between himself and others, regardless of scale.

Having found someone to room with who was of the same height relatively, and had the same problems he did to a degree, they agreed to share a space while working around the same university. Although the classes considered are different academically, there is still a relative degree of scientific basis to most courses each keep charge of.

He has technical interest in his coworker, although not the first infatuation with someone that has crossed by without mention. He has not said anything about that thus far for fear of disrupting the relationship as it stands currently. Regardless of reticence, things continue as normal in terms of work and discussion.

Trivia

Can hear, but not in the typical sense. May focus on visual cues for discussion, being more adept at seeing than hearing.

Can be called withdrawn, but not completely in that range.

Has a soft leaf-rustle kind of voice. This rarely becomes strident. He is capable of a loud hiss if panicked.

Stands about the height of an unsharpened pencil.

A botanist, besides a mycologist and to some extent a cytologist.

He keeps several terrarium-spaces. The specimens in these are propagated from cells collected from field samples. He uses apothecary jars for this generally, which are less expensive and easier to replace if an accident occurs. The strains that result are studied and IDed. These often vary in composition and potency.

Has considerably more strength than what might be immediately apparent. Can carry up to 110kg evidently. His exoskeleton is very durable and difficult to break; leading to related factors concerning fortitude and strength.

He is not a cold-weather individual despite this; and would not last long in a relevant situation.

Likes to gather leaves frequently. After a day of collecting samples, foliage may outweigh actual material.

Shares a residence with someone else of the same academic field; that a norm historically.

He has put small makeshift stools around various surfaces of that space, mostly for food and study purposes.

Frequently sleeps sitting up, a bed relatively unfamiliar. He has used them before, but his size makes it difficult to create one.

Technically is a second or third generation from his heritage origin. Despite not being very experienced, he is still adult.

He has acquaintances, who are sometimes a support socially. Being smaller in scale means difficulties. He is often overlooked, but less often undervalued.

He can hear, see, smell, and potentially sense further with the setae minutely around his person; mainly extremities. These are very short, but still function as a sensory receptor. Related awareness helps in not getting into worse situations. If he were to encounter poison or other hazardous substances, the fact that something was wrong would mean attempted distance.

In his perspective, things that are hazardous often dull or deaden his setae significantly enough that he immediately retreats. Encounters may still be enough to end up very sick, depending on the situation.

His relative ancestry adapted to surrounding fact, which meant becoming biologically tied to trees and beetle species. That would have been ages ago, and enough that he is nearly identifiable as a hercules beetle.

Fae often ‘conform’ to surrounding natural elements if remaining to a given location for a long duration. He indirectly originated from an environment with a lot of insect species and trees.

Shelter used by his ancestry 'conforms to' naturalistic elements when accurate. This allowed for nondescription as well as other advantages. Dead wood is often around forests; including dead trees. Trees rot relatively slowly, and moving from one location to another would not be constant as a necessity.

It is odd to him, in his own perspective, to live in a place that focuses on stone and metal instead of wood and foliage; but only minimally.

The move away from limited social spheres to a more wide-scale kind has brought significant changes. Most, he has since acclimated to. Being about many others who technically tower over him is not new, and has not been for a long while; but he still occasionally runs into conflict in that regard.

He has a tiny microscope, which is one of a number of related instruments looked after. Often uses gloves when studying with tools for various reasons. While gold does not tarnish like silver or other metals, oils can alter the composition of most materials.

Iron is separate from gold in folklore. Along with silver and other metals, gold can be considered a 'safe' material.

The denominations that currently exist are small enough for a majority to carry and distribute. However, older coinage tends to be heavier. He viewed this as detrimental, and the changes as beneficial. Paper currency is more frequently used, albeit easily subject to damage.

It is not too infrequent to see him studying a leaf or section of dirt and mycelium with a tool when on excursions.
